Volvo reveals updated plug-in hybrid XC60 and XC90 with longer electric range
Volvo has revealed updated plug-in hybrid versions of its XC60 and XC90 SUVs that feature larger batteries and extended electric driving ranges.
New battery capacity increases range
The Swedish automaker states these models now hold the longest electric range of any plug-in hybrid available in the American market. Both vehicles utilize a 41.2 kWh battery pack with 37.9 kWh usable capacity integrated directly into the floor for efficiency.
Electric distance exceeds previous variants
EPA testing standards show the XC60 delivers 78 miles while the XC90 provides 73 miles of battery-only driving. These figures represent more than double the electric range found in earlier versions of these popular SUVs.
Powertrain components receive upgrades
The updated systems include more powerful motors capable of receiving increased energy from the larger battery packs. Volvo claims these changes push the limits of current plug-in hybrid technology capabilities.
