Volvo plans hands-free driving using Nvidia technology by 2030
Volvo Cars announced in Stockholm on Thursday that it will deploy Nvidia's autonomous driving stack for hands-free, point-to-point driving by 2030.

New system capabilities and timeline
The automaker intends to launch a Level 2++ system capable of handling complex urban environments without explicit driver control. This technology will manage traffic lights, stop signs, and unprotected left turns while the driver keeps their hands off the wheel. The rollout is scheduled for completion in the year 2030.
Hardware and software components
Volvo will utilize Nvidia's Hyperion platform which includes high-powered silicon chips and additional sensors mounted around the vehicle. The system also incorporates Alpamayo software that uses reasoning models to plan steering paths in difficult road conditions.
Partnership approach and safety focus
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that features would be rolled out gradually as the vehicles earn trust from users. Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson confirmed the company will take a cautious approach to deploying these new automated services.
