Valve announced that its new wireless Steam Frame virtual reality headset will cost more than originally planned because of rising prices for memory and storage components.

Original pricing target missed

The company initially intended to sell the device for less than $1,059. Developer Jeremy Selan explained that global market conditions for RAM and storage prevented this lower price point.

Hardware specifications remain unchanged

Valve chose not to reduce the internal memory or storage despite the higher cost. Pierre-Loup Griffais stated that the product development was too advanced to alter the design before shipping.

Wireless features and standalone mode

The headset connects to a PC via Wi-Fi or an included 6GHz USB dongle. It also includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip with 16GB of RAM for playing less demanding games independently.
