US suspends Microsoft and other IT firms from green card program
Senior US officials announced on Thursday that the government is suspending Microsoft, Adobe, and several large IT companies from a key permanent residency programme.

Officials cite fraud and hiring issues
US Vice President JD Vance stated that no company has abused the system more than Microsoft. Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling confirmed that new or pending applications for these firms will not be accepted. The administration says this action aims to push companies to hire more American workers.
Other tech firms face suspension
The suspended list includes Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini alongside the major software makers. Under the PERM process, employers must prove no qualified US worker is available before hiring foreign staff. These companies will be barred from processing permanent labor certification applications involving their employees.
Universities under investigation probe
Vance also announced that nine universities, including Harvard, Yale, and Stanford, would face investigations regarding international student programs. Labor Inspector General Anthony D'Esposito noted that subpoenas had already been served to these institutions. The probe looks at whether foreign influence or improper financial relationships affected hiring decisions.
