Regulatory approval timeline

The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission finished its review process in fourteen months. This decision authorizes the utility to begin construction work immediately at the Clinch River location.

Future power generation steps

TVA must secure an additional license before loading nuclear fuel or starting electricity production. The approved unit uses boiling-water technology that relies on natural circulation for coolant movement.

Potential project expansion plans

Officials are considering building up to four BWRX-300 units at the Tennessee location. Construction timing for these additional reactors remains undecided by the utility company.
