New platform replaces old portal

The new UN System Data Commons is built on Google's open source Data Commons platform. It allows users to search statistics from across UN agencies using natural-language queries instead of traditional database interfaces.

System supports AI connection standards

The platform also supports the Model Context Protocol, a standard that lets AI systems connect directly to external data sources. This change addresses issues where many current systems struggle to reliably surface authoritative data for users.

AI accuracy test results shared

A UNICEF benchmark tested six large language models against more than 133,000 responses about global development indicators. The test produced an average accuracy score of just 21.2% for the models evaluated.
