Tesla renames Full Self-Driving to Tesla Assisted Driving in Europe
Germany's transport ministry and Tesla agreed to rename the autonomous system to Tesla Assisted Driving earlier this month.

Ministry pushes for name change
Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport stated that the current label Full Self-Driving is somewhat misleading. Transport Minister Steffen Bilger believes the technology requires human supervision and does not perform the entire driving task. The ministry agreed to allow the system to travel at speeds up to 10% over local limits to smooth traffic flow.
Company accepts new terminology
Tesla suggested the name change after discussions with officials last month. The company will now use Tesla Assisted Driving instead of Full Self-Driving Supervised across European markets. This adjustment aims to facilitate a wider adoption of the system on the continent.
Regulators seek EU approval
Bilger plans to advocate for the new name ahead of an upcoming EU-wide vote later this year. Eight European countries have already given the green light to Tesla's autonomous driving system. A broader rollout across the European Union is expected in 2027.
