Decision affects iconic OP-1 model

Kouthoofd stated that the plan includes discontinuing the OP-1, which launched in 2011 and became central to the company's success. He told Highsnobiety that his team was surprised by the announcement when he shared it last autumn. The CEO explained that products are no longer the primary focus of the business strategy.

Company shifts away from hardware

Kouthoofd concluded that Teenage Engineering can achieve more than just manufacturing music gear. He believes the organization should pursue opportunities beyond creating physical synthesizers like the OP-XY and EP-133. The company has previously worked with partners such as Ikea and Nothing on various projects.
