New verification steps begin now

The streaming service will ask users to scan a code if they want to add someone to their family group. This change aims to stop people from sharing passwords with strangers outside the household. Users must show they are physically at the same location as the account holder.

Password sharing gets stricter limits

Spotify states that simply knowing a password is no longer enough to join a family plan. The company wants to ensure only people living together can access the shared subscription. Enforcement of these new rules starts immediately for existing and new accounts.
