SpaceX partners with Qualcomm to build nationwide Starlink Mobile 5G network
SpaceX and Qualcomm announced a multi-year agreement Wednesday to deploy ground-based 5G equipment for Starlink Mobile across the United States starting in 2027.

Agreement details and scope
Qualcomm will supply radio equipment, baseband units, and software for tens of thousands of macro cell sites. The company described this contract as its largest 5G deal to date. Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed by either party.
Technology specifications
The network will utilize Qualcomm Dragonwing platforms including the QRU100 and QDU100 models. These units feature 64 transmit paths and 64 receive paths to handle radio functions and signal processing. The design aims to improve coverage, capacity, and energy efficiency for the licensed spectrum.
Rollout timeline
Deployments are scheduled to begin in 2027 with a phased approach across the country. The infrastructure will combine satellite constellations with terrestrial base stations to maintain mobile communication. This expansion allows SpaceX to compete directly with existing telecom incumbents in the US market.
