Sony launches QSSR AI upscaling for base PS5 with Marvel Wolverine
Sony has launched Quick Spectral Super Resolution AI graphics upscaling for the standard PlayStation 5 console, starting with patches for Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei.

New technology arrives on base hardware
The new tech is called Quick Spectral Super Resolution and comes from Sony's Project Amethyst work with AMD. This software-level alternative replaces the hardware-accelerated upscaling that was previously locked behind the premium PS5 Pro model.
Performance differs from the Pro version
Because the standard console lacks dedicated machine learning silicon, QSSR does not match the speed of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution on the PS5 Pro. Developers must tune render resolution and presentation targets more flexibly for the base architecture compared to the Pro unit.
First titles receive October updates
Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei will receive the update via patches arriving in October. Analysts note that image quality improvements vary between these two specific games during early testing.
