Shopify allows browser-based AI agents to complete purchases on its platform
Shopify announced on Monday that browser-based AI agents can now finalize transactions on merchant sites using new checkout tools.

New tools enable full purchase flow
The company introduced three specific functions to handle the checkout process. These utilities let agents inspect screens and modify details like delivery options. Buyers must still authorize the transaction before an order is placed.
Update expands previous inventory search
Earlier support allowed agents to find products and add them to carts. The latest change lets these tools read and update the checkout interface directly. This method avoids the need for screenshots or scraping webpages entirely.
Rollout covers eligible merchants globally
A staff product manager confirmed the feature is rolling out to all eligible stores. Shopify already provides a hosted server for agents working between systems. The new standard WebMCP targets agents operating inside the buyer browser.
