Funding milestones drive development

Shield AI has secured an additional $150 million contract from the US Navy for its unmanned combat aircraft. This brings total external investment to $200 million after an initial $50 million government contribution. The company must match the latest funding amount while meeting specific technical milestones set by the service.

Prototype timeline and capabilities

The firm plans to unveil a full-scale prototype of the fighter-sized drone before October 2026. Flight tests are scheduled to occur later this year following the completion of the aircraft. The design allows for vertical take-off and landing with a range of 2,000 nautical miles.

Operational ceiling specifications

Shield AI states the vehicle can reach an operating altitude of 50,000 feet during missions. The projected combat radius for the aircraft ranges between 1,000 and 1,340 nautical miles according to company data.
