Major brands exit the market

LG stopped producing 8K panels this year after Sony discontinued its remaining models in 2025. TCL previously cited low demand as a reason for leaving the sector. These departures leave Samsung as the sole holdout among major electronics companies.

Sales numbers show limited adoption

Research firm Omdia reported nearly a billion 4K TVs are in use worldwide. In contrast, cumulative sales of 8K sets since 2015 total just 1.6 million units. Omdia data indicates that 8K sales peaked in 2022 before declining.

Content availability lags behind screens

An 8K TV displays 7,680 x 4,320 pixels but lacks sufficient source material. The technology shift from 4K to 8K did not happen as predicted by industry observers.
