Russia unveils plywood drone boat that fits in a van
Russian manufacturer Ushkuynik announced a new uncrewed surface vessel made of plywood that can be assembled quickly and carries fiber-optic drones.
Design and assembly speed
The Scientific and Production Center Ushkuynik states the hull is cut from water-repellent plywood. Company CEO Alexey Chadayev says ten disassembled units fit into a single GAZelle van. Each vessel can be assembled in about four hours using a cordless screwdriver.
Payload and operational range
The craft travels up to 200 kilometers while carrying payloads of up to 250 kilograms. It includes communication modules and holds space for four fiber-optic UAVs. The design allows the boat to serve as a mothership or a one-way attack craft.
Production cost comparison
Chadayev told Rossiyskaya Gazeta that production can occur at any furniture factory. He claims the cost is roughly a fifth of a conventional naval drone. The announcement was made around the International Technological Congress 2026.
