New mandatory tracking rules take effect
The Ministry of Transport announced that flight plans for unconnected civilian drones will no longer be accepted from October 1, 2026. This requirement applies to any aircraft exceeding a weight of 250 grams operating over Russian territory. The state telematics platform ERA-GLONASS will serve as the necessary clearinghouse for all tracker data.
Current restrictions remain in place
Moscow-area and St. Petersburg drone bans continue to apply despite the new federal rules. Officials describe the system as a way to lift regional bans elsewhere, though those specific areas are unaffected now. Remote identification hardware has been mandatory for aircraft since March 1, 2026.
