Rune launches RELIC to convert wasted solar power into GPU compute

San Francisco startup Rune announced a new modular unit called RELIC that attaches directly to existing solar plants to capture unused electricity for computing tasks.

Modular units bypass grid limits

The company states the equipment connects directly to functioning solar generation sites without requiring new construction. This setup avoids metering charges and utility fees that typically slow AI growth.

Installation takes about an hour

Rune claims the system can be installed in roughly 60 minutes to deliver working GPU capacity. The technology allows facilities to use up to 20 percent of electricity they currently waste.

Funding supports rapid expansion

The launch coincided with a $40 million Series A financing round for the firm. Total capital raised by Rune now stands at $53.5 million to support further development.
