Supplier background and ownership

ŠKODA JS is based in Czechia and was previously part of the old ŠKODA Works organization. The company became state-backed after being bought by ČEZ in 2022, which removed its previous Russian owner.

Specific equipment and reactor type

The Czech manufacturer will design and manufacture Control Rod Drive Mechanisms for the Rolls-Royce SMR. These reactors are capable of outputting 470 MW of energy and require vital hardware to regulate output during emergencies.

Deal value and market context

The agreement is expected to be worth approximately £35 million per power station according to the reported figures. Competition for nuclear hardware expertise remains strong across Europe while ŠKODA JS is considered a tier-one supplier.
