Reasons for the shutdown

The studio stated that player interest waned quickly after the throwback mode launched in July. Many users returned to the main game instead of playing the classic version. Riot noted that long wait times in some regions prompted the introduction of windowed queues before the final shutdown.

Future plans for the mode

Developers intend to bring back Classic as a limited-time event based on feedback from this inaugural run. The team will continue adding champions to the pool during the remaining patches planned for 2026. Riot hopes adjustments and additions will make a future return successful.
