Privacy complaints double in volume

The regulator also handled 353 privacy complaints, a figure that exceeds twice the count from the prior period. Commissioner Joanne Kummrow noted that services reached unprecedented levels of activity during this reporting cycle.

Most incidents stem from human error

A spokesperson stated that the majority of these security failures resulted from accidents or mistakes made by staff members. Unauthorised disclosure of personal information through misdirected messages was identified as a common cause for these notifications.

Mandatory scheme began recently

This reporting period marked the first full year since the mandatory notification requirement started in July 2025. Some of the reported incidents were classified as malicious and intentional rather than simple administrative oversights.
