Qualcomm releases new Elite sound chip with integrated Wi-Fi 6E for earbuds
Qualcomm has announced its Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 chip which integrates micro-power Wi-Fi 6E directly into the processor.
Integrated connectivity reduces device size
The new chip combines Wi-Fi functionality with audio processing in a single unit. This design makes the component 30 percent smaller than previous models that required separate chips. Device makers can now connect earbuds directly to home networks without extra hardware.
Power consumption and AI gains
Qualcomm states the processor uses up to 40 percent less power than its predecessor. The unit also features twice the artificial intelligence processing capabilities of the older generation. These improvements aim to support high-quality lossless audio streaming for wireless headphones.
Previous technology adoption challenges
Earlier platforms required external chips which limited manufacturer interest in the technology. Only one product from Xiaomi utilized the previous system before a global release. The integrated approach is expected to encourage wider industry adoption of Wi-Fi audio.
