Qualcomm announces two versions of its new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip
Qualcomm has revealed that its upcoming flagship mobile processor will be sold in standard and extreme variants for next year's smartphones.
Standard chip specifications
The base model uses a 2nm process node and includes an eight-core Oryon CPU. Prime cores within this unit can reach clock speeds of up to 5GHz. The design also incorporates 16MB of Flex Cache to boost single-threaded performance.
Graphics and camera upgrades
An Adreno GPU offers faster rendering speeds compared to the previous generation hardware. The new Spectra image signal processor handles 8K video capture at up to 30 frames per second. Photography capabilities now support single images of up to 320-megapixels or triple camera setups reaching 64MP.
Extreme variant differences
The extreme version provides 50 percent more shared memory alongside wider codec support. This higher-tier chip also delivers better video capture features for advanced users. Both models are being prepared as major smartphone releases conclude for the year.
