Risks from public AI platforms

The advisory states that rapid adoption of public AI chatbots and coding assistants creates new security vulnerabilities. Unauthorised use of these tools, known as Shadow AI, could expose sensitive information, intellectual property, and credentials to the public.

Specific technical threats identified

The National CERT flagged risks arising from prompt injection, insecure AI-generated code, and malicious integrations within third-party services. Organisations must also guard against inaccurate AI outputs and compromised models that could leak proprietary data.

Mandatory policy requirements

The advisory urges organisations to establish a mandatory Generative AI Acceptable Use Policy defining approved and prohibited uses. This policy must set clear requirements for data handling, access control, accountability, and oversight of all AI interactions.
