OpenAI model helps researcher find Ubuntu server vulnerability

Max Justicz of Charge Robotics used an OpenAI cybersecurity model to identify a severe bug in Ubuntu servers in July.

Researcher finds critical flaw

Max Justicz, chief technology officer at Charge Robotics, utilized the GPT 5.6 Sol model to scan code for security issues. He instructed the AI to locate bugs as bad or worse than a previously fixed issue in the same codebase. The system returned the severe vulnerability within two hours of running the search.

Debian project issues patch

Justicz reported the finding to the Debian Project, which maintains the software and released a fix immediately. There is currently no evidence that hackers have exploited this specific issue in the wild. The ease of discovery suggests many more potential exploits may exist for novice users with AI assistance.
