Altman criticizes local PC memory use

The OpenAI leader stated it is quite terrible for individuals to hold the world's limited supply of DRAM in their own machines. He explained that personal computers often utilize this memory only five percent of the time while sitting idle.

Cloud offers maximum utilization rates

Altman argued that maximum utilization occurs in the cloud when dealing with a very supply constrained environment. Many people's intuition regarding where to place memory is currently the opposite of what he believes is necessary.

Supply chain pressures intensify globally

OpenAI's recent buying spree has squeezed the global supply of RAM as demand from AI engines grows. Memory companies like Samsung and SK Hynix have secured long term deals with cloud service operators to meet these needs.
