OpenAI acquires smartphone camera firm Glass Imaging for $300 million
OpenAI purchased Los Altos-based camera maker Glass Imaging in a deal valued at over $300 million.

Deal value and company history
The Wall Street Journal reported that the transaction includes a firm founded in 2019 by former Apple engineers Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop. Glass Imaging previously secured approximately $30 million from investors before this acquisition. The company focuses on using neural networks to improve images directly at the moment of capture.
Technology approach and future plans
Unlike competitors that edit photos after they are taken, this firm trains systems on specific camera hardware to yield better results immediately. OpenAI has not yet provided a comment regarding the purchase. Reports suggest the ChatGPT maker is developing its own hardware including smartphones and earbuds.
