New film Artificial depicts OpenAI founders and rivals in dramatic scenes
The movie Artificial premiered at the New York Film Festival this week to depict the artificial intelligence arms race involving OpenAI executives.

Cast portrays real industry figures
Andrew Garfield plays OpenAI CEO Sam Altman while Ike Barinholtz portrays Elon Musk. Yuri Borisov takes on the role of OpenAI cofounder Ilya Sutskever in the production. The actors use distinct walking styles to differentiate their characters during the film.
Distribution deal caused controversy
Amazon MGM originally planned to release the movie before dropping it this summer. This decision followed a separate agreement between Amazon and OpenAI worth $50 billion. Indie distributor Neon subsequently acquired the rights to distribute the film.
Film offers critical view
The narrative depicts major drivers of the AI boom as vain and reckless. OpenAI stakeholders are shown in an unflattering light throughout the story. Director Luca Guadagnino guided the production at the New York Film Festival.
