Microsoft tests phone and Nano controller options for Xbox Cloud Gaming
Microsoft is testing two new controller methods for its cloud gaming service on select smart TVs in the United States today.
Phone as a controller option
Users can now use their smartphone as a controller when streaming games on supported televisions. The interface launches directly within a web browser without requiring a dedicated application download. Some titles feature custom layouts designed specifically for this mobile input method.
Nano Controller Wi-Fi connection
People in the US may connect the new Nano Controller to the service via a wireless network. This setup aims to reduce latency during gameplay sessions. Users must install the Xbox beta app on Android or the Accessories app on PC to complete the configuration.
Access requirements for testing
Participants need to enable preview features through the account settings menu in the cloud gaming interface. Those connecting via the PC application must also be enrolled in the Xbox Insider testing program. The company made these options available starting today on specific television models.
