Kioxia unveils new GP1 SSD that exceeds 20 million IOPS

Kioxia announced a new PCIe 6.0 GP1 flash drive in August 2026 that surpasses 20 million random-read IOPS.

New drive doubles previous speed

The latest model roughly doubles the performance of the GP1 version released earlier this year. This upgraded unit achieves about 10 million IOPS with its predecessor, while the new version reaches over 20 million.

Technology improves memory access

Third-generation XL-FLASH memory enables three times the reading speed and roughly 150 percent higher writing speed than before. The design uses shorter wiring and additional planes to improve how data is accessed.

Company targets AI storage markets

Kioxia plans to use this flash storage to compete directly with DRAM in artificial intelligence applications. Neville Ichhaporia stated that scalable storage serves as the foundation for innovation in AI infrastructure.
