Kutaragi supports ending disc production

Ken Kutaragi stated that keeping physical discs is not economically reasonable for Sony. He told VGC at the conference in England that players view discs as ownership, but he considers this a mentality issue. The former chairman noted that current consoles differ from older models like the PS2 and PS3 regarding network features.

Comparison to smartphone content

Kutaragi compared modern consoles to smartphones where users expect digital content to remain with them. He suggested that because most people are online now, nobody expects physical media for their games. This view represents his own opinion since he left Sony in 2007 and runs independent companies.
