Jesscia Hische designed Meta AI logo despite controversy
Bay Area artist Jesscia Hische created a new icon for Meta's AI assistant Muse while facing criticism from the design community.

Freelance work drew online backlash
Hische took on the project to support her two brick-and-mortar art and stationery shops in Oakland. The news spread quickly on Threads where dozens of fellow designers criticized her for selling out. Many users argued that the decision was about ethics rather than financial need.
Artist explained business pressures
She stated she needed the money because her account often held only two to four payrolls at any given time. Hische also mentioned investing $100,000 in an admin platform and $30,000 in her children's art shop. She noted that her payroll includes herself, her mother, and two other employees.
Critics dismissed financial reasons
Despite her explanation about precarious finances, some online comments remained hostile toward the collaboration. One user wrote that the situation was disgusting regardless of the circumstances involved.
