Smartphone adoption reaches high levels

A Docomo survey indicates that smartphones held 90 percent of all mobile phone owners in 2021. This figure is projected to rise to 98 percent by the year 2025. The shift away from older devices marks a major change in consumer habits.

Feature phone shipments fall sharply

Research firm MM Research Institute recorded that feature phone shipments dropped more than 25 percent in the first half of fiscal year 2025. Total units sold fell to under 400,000 during this period. This decline is expected to accelerate after the remaining 3G network shut down.
