An iFixit teardown of the Valve Steam Frame headset reveals that its internal cooling fan is difficult to access for future repairs.

Fan location creates repair difficulty

The cooling fan is buried deep inside the headset structure. Technicians must snake past optical assemblies and a dense network of cables to reach it. This deep placement makes cleaning or replacing the fan more difficult than necessary.

Other components are easy to fix

Repairs for other parts follow a much smoother path. The head strap detaches via quick-release latches, allowing easy access to the rear battery pack. Sweat-absorbing parts like the nose bridge and cushions are also replaceable without major disassembly.

Magnetic lenses aid display repairs

The lenses attach magnetically to the headset's IPD rail. This design makes display and eye tracking repairs relatively straightforward. Removing them still requires some work but avoids complex internal access.
