Google Wallet now combines card storage and payment processing features
Google has merged its former Google Pay service into the Google Wallet app to simplify digital payments for users.

History of name changes
The service was first revealed as a peer-to-peer payment system in 2011. It later became known as Android Pay in 2015 before shifting to Google Pay in 2018. The application returned to the Google Wallet name in 2022.
Current app functionality
The single current app stores digital cards alongside vouchers and boarding passes. This version allows the payment processing system to work directly with stored cards. Users no longer need a separate application for transactions.
