Free tier model changes arrive

Starting October 9, free account holders can no longer access the standard Flash or Pro models. All inquiries from these accounts will automatically use the Flash-Lite version, which Google describes as its most cost-effective option.

Paid subscriptions face downgrades

Users on the $4.99 per month AI Plus plan will also lose access to the Gemini Pro model. Access to the top-tier Pro model and advanced reasoning options will be restricted to those holding Google AI Pro or Ultra subscriptions.

New effort level choices

Google is adding options for low, medium, and high effort levels for each available model. Selecting higher effort levels may cause users to burn through their monthly usage limits faster.
