New features arrive today

The company is launching this upgrade starting immediately for users of the Android Auto app. Drivers must opt in to allow the system to access data from Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube, and Search history.

Specific use cases explained

Users can ask the assistant to check flight status when heading to an airport or navigate to a doctor's appointment. The system might also locate a car wash based on a photo taken previously by the owner.

Expansion to built-in cars

Vehicles with Google Built-in software will receive this capability in coming months after the initial rollout. Several manufacturers including Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Volvo, and Polestar have already shipped newer models supporting these native apps.
