Market decline reaches record levels

Worldwide PC shipments dropped 20 percent year-over-year during the third quarter of 2026. This period saw 15.8 million fewer computers shipped compared to the same time in 2025. Omdia data indicates a slightly larger drop of 21 percent for the same timeframe.

Component prices drive consumer costs

The share of total PC price taken by DRAM and SSDs has risen from 15 percent to 40 percent. Omdia Research Director Ishan Dutt stated that upstream component cost increases have fully passed through to end-market pricing. AI data center growth continues to push these prices higher without showing signs of stopping.

Revenue projections for memory sector

Omdia anticipates global DRAM revenue will top 372 billion dollars this year. This figure represents a significant increase from the 151 billion dollars recorded last year. The industry expects long-term price rises to continue affecting the consumer market.
