Detainees describe legal system issues

The group recorded a five-minute video using the detention center's tablets. They stated that the legal system is intentionally dysfunctional and designed to keep them in federal custody for long periods. The men noted they are held in privately owned facilities that profit from their confinement.

Low wages limit communication time

One detainee said workers earn one dollar a day through the facility's work program. This small wage allows them to buy supplementary food but restricts phone call duration to about ten minutes. The video showed the men wearing drab uniforms while their images were blurred by low-resolution cameras.

Criticism of court system grows

The recording also addressed President Donald Trump's impact on immigration courts according to the detainees. They described these courts as hostile and referred to them as deportation courts in their message. The facility operates a work program where men cook, do laundry, or clean for minimal pay.
