Former Waymo CFO Elisa de Martel joins self-driving firm Wayve
Elisa de Martel has been hired as chief financial officer at Sunnyvale-based startup Wayve while outgoing leader Max Warburton moves to an advisory role.

New leadership arrives at company
De Martel will be based in California and brings experience from Apple and Carbon. She previously served as the finance director for Waymo between 2022 and January 2026. Max Warburton held the CFO position since 2024 before shifting to support the leadership team.
Company prepares for commercial launch
Wayve is currently transitioning from testing phases to deploying automated driving technology on two fronts. The startup focuses on robotaxis and passenger vehicles using a self-learning software approach. Investors and automotive customers have supported the firm which now values its operations at about $8.5 billion.
Software relies on data training
The automated driving system uses an end-to-end neural network to teach vehicles how to drive. This method does not depend on high-definition maps or custom hardware components. The company avoids hand-coded rules in favor of using data to train the software layer.
