FCC grants Matic robot vacuum waiver for existing models

The FCC added the original Matic robot vacuum and its charging dock to a ban waiver list on October 2.

Existing devices remain unaffected

The agency approved these specific radio products for import, marketing, and sale in the United States. The ban only prevents future products from entering the country if their radios have not been previously approved.

Manufacturing location matters little

Matic assembles its robots at a facility in Mountain View, California, so an import ban does not currently apply. The company uses off-the-shelf Intel AX210 Wi-Fi chips that already hold separate FCC approval.

Future imports face hurdles

A waiver might help if the company builds new products outside the US and tries to bring them in. The FCC has not granted similar relief for other foreign-made drones, robots, or routers yet.
