Musk accuses unnamed rivals of blocking service

Elon Musk stated on social media that certain oligarchs are preventing SpaceX from launching Starlink in India. He suggested these individuals maintain a monopolistic chokehold on the Indian people without naming specific companies. The billionaire implied his comments targeted major telecom operators who hold significant market shares.

Government denies claims of unfair treatment

India's Ministry of Communications released a statement saying its regulatory framework is fair and non-discriminatory. Officials noted that Starlink and two other licensed satellite operators are at broadly the same regulatory stage. The ministry added that security assessments are currently under way for all three entities before spectrum assignment.

Partnerships exist but launch is delayed

SpaceX has partnered with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel to bring the service to the country. Despite these agreements signed last year, commercial services have not yet begun after five years of effort. The wait involves scrutiny over security requirements and access to radio frequencies used by satellites.
