Elgin Community College staff covered Flock cameras after company refused removal request
In late 2025, Elgin Community College in Illinois attempted to remove Flock safety cameras after the vendor refused their cancellation request.

College officials raised security concerns
School administration became worried that the vendor shared data with Customs and Border Patrol. Officials also noted that camera feeds were not properly secured and that unauthorized access occurred.
Staff covered cameras with bags
In October 2025, Elgin Community College requested Flock remove the equipment but received a rejection. School staff then began covering the devices with black trash bags and zip ties to stop footage capture.
Workers removed protective coverings
Personnel in an unmarked vehicle repeatedly took the covers off the cameras despite the school's efforts. The college president stated that these workers appeared to belong to the vendor company.
