Efferon NEO device targets pediatric sepsis by filtering toxins and cytokines
Startup Efferon has developed a medical device called NEO designed to treat pediatric sepsis in children under five.

Device filters blood toxins
Sepsis causes organ failure when the immune system overreacts to infection. Standard treatments like antibiotics sometimes fail to stop this dangerous reaction. Efferon's device filters blood to remove endotoxins and cytokines that drive the condition.
Pediatric design meets needs
Children have lower circulating blood volumes than adults, requiring specialized equipment. The NEO device is engineered specifically for this smaller physiology. Co-founder Dima Romashin states the tool absorbs both toxins and cytokines simultaneously.
Startup selected for competition
Efferon was chosen as one of 200 startups for TechCrunch Disrupt 2026. The company aims to lower the global death toll from childhood sepsis. Roughly three million children under five die annually from this leading cause of mortality.
