Expanded color range and performance

The new display is designed to produce a wider range of colors while improving white reflectance and contrast. E Ink states that the technology doubles the color gamut volume to allow for over 40,000 colors. The company also claims refresh rate improvements enable video content display at 18 frames per second.

Impact on major device makers

Screens from this manufacturer are currently used by Amazon, Kobo, and Boox for their e-reader devices. These improvements could allow next-generation readers to show more accurate color images without compromising black and white text clarity. Older Kaleido 3 displays suffered from relative fuzziness in text, a drawback that some companies addressed by using Gallery 3 instead.
