BYD plans to launch first solid-state battery car in 2027
Chinese automaker BYD intends to release its first vehicle with solid-state batteries in 2027.
Company confirms leading position
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li stated the firm holds a leading position for commercializing this technology. She noted that one model will feature the new battery next year to prove this capability.
Timeline for mass production
Sun Huajun, Chief Technology Officer of BYD's battery subsidiary FinDreams, shared plans at a conference in February 2025. He indicated that mass production would begin around 2030 after the initial demonstration and installation phase.
Traditional batteries remain available
BYD Chief Scientist Lian Yubo clarified that traditional lithium batteries will not be phased out alongside the new technology. The sulfide solid-state batteries are intended mainly for specific applications while existing models continue to use conventional cells.
