Bluetooth speaker wattage ratings do not directly indicate volume output

Audio experts explain that electrical power specifications for Bluetooth speakers are measured in RMS and peak ratings rather than simple volume indicators.

Understanding power measurement types

Manufacturers often list only one of two figures, making comparisons difficult. The peak power rating represents the maximum electrical power an amplifier can handle for short bursts. Sustaining this level usually causes problems or damages internal components.

RMS ratings define continuous output

Root mean square measurements indicate the power a speaker handles continuously without issues. Doubling wattage does not double loudness because audio physics and driver size also matter. Retailers sometimes omit RMS data, leaving buyers to guess about true capabilities.
