Current job reductions underway

The bank has already removed 1,000 positions as part of this restructuring effort. Another 4,000 roles are expected to be closed before the end of the year.

Roles affected by changes

Most of the vacant posts involve operational and functional roles within the UK retail banking arm. Investment banking operations will also experience reductions in staff numbers during this period.

Reasons for workforce cuts

Barclays cites deep investments in new technology as the primary driver for these changes. The company states that artificial intelligence helps automate workflows to make processes more efficient.
