Automattic appoints new board members after CEO removes ousted directors
Automattic announced a reconstituted board of directors to employees on Friday following the removal of previous members who voted to place CEO Matt Mullenweg on leave.
New board composition revealed
The updated group includes science fiction author Hugh Howey and Amy Chan, known for writing Breakup Bootcamp. Henry Khatachryan, a co-founder of the defunct social app IRL, also joined the panel. Krutal Desa completed the new lineup of directors.
Previous board conflict resolved
Earlier this month, former directors voted to put Mullenweg on leave in an effort to change his position. The CEO regained control within 33 hours by accepting resignations or removing the involved directors. This week Mullenweg posted about a meeting but did not share specific names until now.
Company portfolio remains intact
Automattic is the parent company of WordPress.com, Tumblr, WooCommerce and other services. The governance changes affect the leadership structure without altering these existing business assets. Staff received the announcement through the companys internal Slack channel.
