Apple updates parental controls in iOS 27 with new safety tools
Apple introduced enhanced parental control features alongside its September iOS 27 update to help manage children's device usage.

New safety tools and guides
The company collaborated with the American Academy of Pediatrics to design these new protections. A companion guide helps parents balance screen time with sleep, exercise, and family activities. Features include Time Allowances, Ask to Browse, and expanded Communication Safety options.
Setup requirements for families
Parents must update every device in a Family Sharing group to run the latest software version. Devices unable to upgrade will keep using the older control system from iOS 26. This requirement creates a gap for households with older hardware that cannot receive the update.
