New device availability details

The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K arrives on November 13 with an A19 chip. This new box includes an improved Siri Remote and hands-free Siri controls. The retail price for the new hardware is set at $299.

Historical support patterns end

Previous generations received major software updates for eight to ten years before stopping. Security patches continued beyond that period but ended in September 2026 with the release of tvOS 27. The official compatibility list now starts with the second-generation Apple TV 4K from 2021.

Reasons for replacement

Hardware may continue to function after official support ends. Software and app compatibility issues are the most likely reasons owners will replace their devices. Users should expect limited future updates for older models.
